What Is AAC (Augmentative & Alternative Communication)?

AAC stands for Augmentative and Alternative Communication. It's all the ways people communicate besides or instead of talking—perfect for kids who are non-verbal, have unclear speech, or struggle to express needs.

What Is AAC Therapy?

AAC replaces or supplements speech for kids with autism, apraxia, cerebral palsy, or severe delays. Not a "last resort" research shows it accelerates speech development in 70% of cases. Types:

  • No-tech: PECS cards, signs, gestures.

  • Low-tech: PODD books, printed boards.
